Our goal is to provide state of the art, personalized gynecological
care for women from adolescents, through childbearing, and
menopause. Across this spectrum of health care, we support
and encourage your participation with us in promoting and
maintaining your personal health. Therefore, we have designed
our appointment schedule to give each woman additional time
for communication, education, and therapeutic decision making
with an unhurried and relaxed approach.
(pronounced Shake) was born and raised in India. She completed
her undergraduate work in Madras, India and her post-graduate
training in obstetrics and gynecology in Bombay, India. She
moved to the United States in 1980 where she completed a second
residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Mount Sinai Hospital
in Chicago. She is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics
and Gynecology. She has been in practice in Santa Barbara
since 1984 and is on staff at Cottage Hospital. She was chairman
of the department of Ob/Gyn and chief of staff at Santa Barbara
Cottage hospital in 2006-2007. Dr. Shaikh is married to Dr.Mohammed
Shaikh, a materials engineer and business executive. They
have a daughter, Sarah, born in 1984.
Turturro, is a nationally certified Women’s
Health nurse practitioner and joined Dr. Shaikh’s practice
in 2007. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing
from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and
graduated from Harbor UCLA Medical Center Women’s Health
Nurse Practitioner program.
Deborah believes that a woman’s health encompasses her
body, mind and spirit, and her experience includes caring
for women from adolescence to post menopause. She has always
been passionate about educating women and encouraging them
to actively participate in their personal health care.Her
goal is to make each one of her patients feel that they are
the most important patient to her, and she strives to be a
In addition to providing annual exams and birth control options,
she is trained to evaluate most gynecological problems. She
also has many years of experience in colposcopy which is a
diagnostic procedure for abnormal pap tests.
Deborah is a certified menopause practitioner by the North
American Menopause Society and has been treating problems
related to peri-menopause and menopause for many years. After
completing a thorough consultation and evaluation, she will
offer a variety of treatment options including Bio-Identical
hormones and natural therapies. She is committed to providing
her patients with up to date medical information, and always
provides adequate time for a relaxed visit.
For the past several years Deborah has also been affiliated
with the International Society for the Study of Women’s
Sexual Health, and also offers her patients the opportunity
to discuss sexuality issues or problems.
